CFS tablet & mobile apps

Integrated online and mobile solution for saving lives.

With significant monthly traffic during the summer months, the CFS Internet site demands business critical performance in delivering time sensitive information to a myriad of audiences across multiple devices.

Multi-site Management

The South Australian Fire and Emergency Services Commission selected the CentricMinds Enterprise CMS as it provided an integrated environment for managing multiple websites quickly and easily.

The end result provides the South Australian Fire and Emergency Services Commission with a self-sufficient environment for managing content across 4 independent Internet sites with little to no ongoing involvement from CentricMinds.

Requiring the need to deliver timely and relevant information to the public during a fire threat, the Country Fire Service selected the MobileNation mobile publishing platform to create a mobile app for iOS and Android devices. The CFS mobile app presents a unified view of threats across the state, including wind speed and direction. The app also integrates with the CFS incidents system that displays CFS response activities as they occur.

HTML5 app

Despite having siginificant content available on its website to assist the community in determining their bush fire risk situation and adequately prepare for bush fire risk, the CFS was acutely aware that they needed to implement a more untuitive and interactive model to deeper engage the public in accessing this vital information.

Zero was commissioned to develop and implement an interactive HTML5 app focused on the community becoming "Bush Fire Ready". The app, running across desktop and tablet devices, concisely integrates key textual data into an interactive, concise 6 stage process.  Users are able to interactively define their location via Google Maps, set the boundary of their property, and define their landscape and surrounding environment via drag and drop tools.  The end result notifies people if they specific loction currently a defendable bush fire location or not.

The CFS mobile application for web, iOS and Android was created entirely within the MobileNation environment. The application helps to inform and to educate the public of the essential information they'll need to know in the event of an emergency. Special emphasis has been placed on the phone's geolocation capabilities, and when users first open the app, they are able to immediately identify which fireban district they are located within, as well as it's corresponding fire danger rating.

Drilling down further, the user is able to identify the nearest places to best-seek refuge in the event of a bushfire. The app also tracks in real-time the emergency incidents occurring, and the current wind directions, and presents this information in both Map and List views.

Achieving this functionality in the app using the MobileNation platform was an easy task and required no coding to implement, due to MobileNation's powerful data connection and mapping capabilities.
